Halo Wars' "Historic Battles" Screen Shots!

Yesterday, we received confirmation of the existence of new achievements and the “Historic Battles” Map Pack coming to Halo Wars for a lovably low 800 MSPoints. Still, if you wondered what these maps are going to look like, check below!

Click each of them for the largest ‘available’ resolutions. I hope to get higher res shots soon.

Editorial: Really, Sony? Where's the Upgrade?

Last week, the PS3’s Firmware was updated to 2.80. The story was the same as it always is. People went looking for all of the changes under the hood. The generic line from Sony was “the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.”

The PS3 owners themselves struck first. Following the comments on the official PlayStation.Blog, the second comment started in with “does it have friends party chat?” – no. #3: “is the os footprint been reduced?” – no (though, admittedly, this is probably more of a misunderstanding of how hard drive sizes are measured. Poster 8 of the over 600 comments kindly stated: “one day i hope to see a full set of release notes, no matter the length. just knowing what’s REALLY going on would be great.” But it wasn’t long before comment 12 struck back asking for yet another feature that wasn’t planned for this release, and #40 commenting on a ‘dream features list’ for 3.00, though stating it more like a fact.

#66 chimed in with a list of features the 360 is supposed to be getting this fall. Then the 360 fanboys start in like sharks on chud. The PS3 owners strike back with a few level headed posts, for example #349, stating “We all will be satisfied sooner or later…and yall should really stop rushing this xgame chat, comparing it to 360..maybe if its not rushed it will end up being better than expected.

Fact is, it does boil down to the fact that there have been a series of weak updates from Sony. A lot of long-requested features have not yet been added, and some minor bugs that one imagine could be an easy fix (or never should have happened in the first place) have been ignored, including the long standing battery-over-the-clock issue, which, Lempel recently said, will be fixed soon. Using this numbering system for their Firmware updates, I certainly hope that Sony’s 3.0 update, whenever it happens, isn’t just another release, but really contains the updates that many of us have wanted for a long while.

Sometime, I’ll get in to it with the Wii System Updates. Perhaps someday a real friends list will show up on the Wii, and they’ll make it more than just a sofa-couch social experience!

Better Know a Gamer: #29: webbut

Welcome, one and all, to yet another installment of Better Know a Gamer! It’s not quite 20 million, but it is number 29, our friend webbut! If you’ve been keeping up with you’re reading, you’d know that webbut won the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix caption contest! Now then, here’s webbut!

Nu: What’s your Gamertag, and what’s the story behind it?
No story really, When I first started using the net I wanted a user name that I could use everywhere and never have to worry about it being taken so I got webbut (pronounced web but not we but).

Nu: Where are you from?
Queens, New York.

Nu: How old are you, and what do you do (school, job, family, hobbies)?
17 right now I’m between high school and college.

Nu: Excellent, another young buck! I was only 17 my first few weeks of college! Good luck in the fall. How long have you been gaming in general?
At the age of 5 I was told by my doctor I had a muscle weakness in my eye and she recommended I play an hour of video games daily, my mom got me a Sega Genesis!

Nu: Do you still play “only” 1 hour per day? 🙂 How long have you been a 360 owner?
Early this year, im still on my 1st paid for Gold membership.

Nu: Welcome to the Xbox Live Community! Glad you found your way to WinBreak! What was one of your favorite Xbox / Xbox Live moments?
When I first got it I hooked into the living room tv and popped in Halo 3 for my first Live match and in the waiting room some vulgar and racist things were said before i could get my headset in… my entire family was in the room with me.

Nu: Xbox Live can be a dangerous place, it’s true. I’m sure it was exciting, to have your whole family there to witness the big moment, shame it was ruined by people like that. Which Xbox 360 Achievement are you most proud of?
I’m not big on achievements most of the time I’m surprised when I get them.

Nu: I’m surprised, because you have a very high gamerscore for someone who just started playing. Are you currently working toward any achievements?
Nope not really.

Nu: Maybe you will start craving that surprise before much longer? 😉 What game(s) are you playing the most now?
Street Fighter 4, Fallout 3, Ninjatown, and The world Ends With You.

Nu: Yes, a Multi-Platform gamer! Very exciting. What’s playing now (what music do you listen to when away from your Xbox or when listening to music ON your Xbox)?
Rock and electronica mostly System of a Down, Beatles, Incubus, Daft punk, Justice are others.

Nu: Great musical choices, man! Way to know musical roots with The Beatles, too! Do you try to stick with one Gamerpic, or change it frequently?
Well I haven’t had my 360 long, I’m pretty sure I’ve changed it 3 times including today.

Nu: What is your current favorite Xbox related website to visit?
Rooster Teeth, if it counts. If not, then GameSpot.

Nu: You bet it counts, I know a lot of a good people over at Rooster Teeth! What game are you looking most forward to in 2009?
I’m looking forward to returning to Rapture in Bioshock 2 the most but I’m really looking froward to BlazBlue and Assasin’s Creed 2 as well.

Nu: Do you have an all time favorite game, for any console or the PC?
Bioshock or Assasin’s Creed!

Nu: Great games, both of’em! I’m pretty excited about the upcoming sequels in 2009, as well, and hopefully will see Webbut in some of those multiplayer matches! Thanks for taking the time to be a part of Better Know a Gamer, and thanks to all of my readers for checking out our latest community member.

Remember, if you want to be a part of BKAG, you can always nominate a friend or yourself, we don’t judge (nor will we embarrass you by saying you nominated yourself!). All you need is an email address, then check out Nominate a Gamer!
