Twitter User's "#top20games"?

April 23rd, 2009

As always, I enjoy tooling around on Twitter. Some of you may know of the practice of “hashtags.” #hashtags are a way for people to track trends and topics on twitter (holy T‘s, Batman).

I won’t bother with all of the details, but basically @GenXer and I started, on 3/27/09, “#top20games.” The Top20Games idea was just a way to get lots of people involved listing their favorite games. Using TagalUs and Hashtags.org. So why not post a list of the #top20games I tracked on Twitter. Below are just some of the results. Upcoming Downloadable FPS Games: Your pick?

March 11th, 2009

Which game are you more excited for? Or is there a third title I should be looking for?

[poll id="5]

I spent a lot of time, recently, reliving some glory days. Thanks to GoG.com I have been reminiscing about the modern-classics, like the original Unreal Tournament from 1999. A new game looks like it might bring back some of the simple but fast paced action that made the first UT such a smash, while none of the sequels have quite lived up to it. CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars will blend the fast paced gritty action of UT with some of the more popular magic-like features of the megaflop Shadowrun. All this is going to be delivered through a downloadable game (Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store) at an affordable price.

An addition to this game, as far back as 2007, people were spotting “Quake III Arena” being listed as an Xbox 360 title on the ESRB’s website, and was even announced by id Software. It looks like it might finally be a reality, coming before the end of 2009. Coupled, at the time, with the announcement of “Quake Zero” (now renamed “Quake Live”) it seems entirely possible like there may be some form of cross-platform play coming to this title.

I’m very excited to check out both of these games, they each look very cool. Are there any other up and coming titles I’m overlooking?

Our Experiment: GamersTable.com

December 14th, 2008

Pull up a chair, ladies and gents!! Welcome to the GamersTable! A website powered almost exclusively by Meebo and intended to give you the easiest resources for connecting with and talking to people from all around the world about one of the things you love the most: video games!

It takes a lot for a site like that to really get going, but that’s why we’re calling it an experiment. It might work, it might flop. I’m only out a few dollars if it doesn’t work out. And if it does, you can bet the place will always be lively!

Due to the fact that it is Meebo powered, uptimes and speeds cannot be guaranteed. But once you’re there, it is fairly self explanatory. Take a look, and keep stopping back. Even if you’re the first and only one in there, you can leave a message for future visitors, and always continue the conversation! So join us all, at the GamersTable!

Halo Wars news roundup

November 18th, 2008

Of all places, Slashdot has put together a pretty good round up of the still-far-off Halo Wars. The Independent.co.uk also date a brief write up, while IGN had some additional hands-on time. GiantBomb’s time with the game is linked to from the Slashdot article. Enjoy!

Family Friendly games help Xbox 360 Fight Global Recession

September 8th, 2008

Found this fascinating piece of news today, at The New Zealand Herald. This kiwi paper is reporting that more and more games are becoming family friendly, and Xbox 360 is helping to lead that charge with increased sales in the region. From the article: “More than 70 per cent of all software titles sold now fall into non-restricted age categories and genres.”

WBX: "Told you so" would be mean, but…

June 12th, 2008

WBX: WinBreak Exclusive – Follow up
Remember in EARLY JANUARY, when I said two specific games would be making their way to the still-new Xbox Originals? One of those games I mentioned, was Guilty Gear X2 #Reload. Well, as of yesterday, June 11th, Major Nelson has confirmed Guilty Gear X2 #Reload will be released this coming Monday, June 16th, along side The Legend of Spyro™: A New Beginning.

While Spyro might be for the ESRB aged “E10″ in your home, and not getting a warm welcome from the “gaming elitist” community, I have actually heard many good things about Guilty Gear X2 #Reload and think that there are more than just a few people excited about this one coming to the Originals program.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, don’t distrust the WBX, you’ll only end up embarrassing yourself. ;)

Rumor: Gears of War GOTY-esque package next month

May 27th, 2008

eCanadaNow is reporting that a new Gears of War package for the Xbox 360 will be hitting store shelves on June 24. The new package, purportedly showing up in retailer’s computer systems as “Gears of War with Maps,” will retail for $39.99, and include all of the previously released DLC (maps and playmodes), as well as the additional content from the PC version. This is the first peep I’ve heard about this, and while I am a little surprised, I don’t disbelieve the rumor.
