Design your own Xbox 360 Game Manual and Case Sleeve!

March 23rd, 2009

I have been getting some positive feedback on the “unique content” handled by WinBreak – so I thought I would continue that with this interesting set of downloads. Did you know how much work went in to making your own Xbox 360 Game Manual? I sure didn’t. Well, if you want to read all about it, and take a crack at it, here is a list of offcial documentation used by partners and developers publishing their own documentation.

The specificity and exactness expressed in these documents is clearly not something Microsoft wanted to leave understated. You must adhere to very specific standards in order to have your cover art and instruction manual “approved” by Microsoft. So take a crack at it, whether you own a PC or a Mac, Microsoft has prepared the files for anyone interested in taking a deeper look.

XBOX_360_MNL_CVR.sit.hqx – 121 MB (Mac packaging and manual remplates)
XBOX_360_MNL_BDY.sit.hqx – 13.6 MB (Mac template pages for required Manual pages)
XBOX_360_MNL_CVR.zip – 87 MB (PC packaging and manual templates)
XBOX_360_MNL_BDY.zip – 9.59 MB (PC template pages for required Manual pages)

New Xbox Experience November 19: Game Channel Details

October 9th, 2008

You’d better be living under a rock if you haven’t heard that November 19th is the official release date for the New Xbox Experience.

In order to help you better understand changes coming to the dashboard, I got my hands on a Document that was sent to developers in late August and early September. It explained how the new “Games Channel” and Games Marketplace would work, along with the “Game In Tray” feature of the Dashboard. Today, when you select “play Game” from the dashboard blades, you see the Game-Tile of the game, along with a few achievements. With the new Dashboard, the background of the channel will change to show the game you currently have in the tray. PS3 owners know the experience very well.

This was explained in great detail to developers by using this guide, so I encourage you to take a look for just one more glimpse of what we’re getting in to.

New Marketing Vocabulary and Images from Microsoft

October 7th, 2008

The holiday marketing season is almost upon us. As soon as the vampires go away, the trees and fake snow will come out. Along with a few new marketing gimmicks from Microsoft. “Jellies,” “Arcs,” “Circle Connection Swirls,” and “Less Tech, More Fun” – if you don’t know these terms, it’s something to look out for in an Xbox 360 aisle near you.

On September 23rd, Microsoft released a little bit of information to the partners about new advertising techniques and methods, trying to show the lighter and more family oriented ideas behind the Xbox 360. As seen above, these new “Jellies” logos will provide an attractive candy-like image to your “Rated E For Everyone” displays.

You can now download the entire 58 page document (31.0 MB) in all its straight-from-Microsoft PDF glory. If you’re looking for a reduced file size one (may not open with some older versions of Adobe Acrobat), you can download this 23.3 MB that I trimmed down (file compression, not content removal!).
