In an interesting article written by Forbes, Ubisoft reveals little about Assassin’s Creed 2, or the new Prince of Persia title. However, they do describe their business model, and how Ubisoft appears to be one of the companies who is in it for the long haul. They discuss their strategy for game releases, and even mention how they have learned from past mistakes.
Over all it’s an interesting read, if you’re at all interested in the business end of the gaming industry. They mention how trying to capitalize on Prince of Persia’s “Sands of Time” game made for fewer sales of the sequels – hence the delay that is only finally bringing us this winter’s Prince of Persia installment. Ubisoft North America’s president, Laurent Detoc, also mentions the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and why we haven’t had a follow up to last year’s sneak-attack-success. “When we bring it back,” he says, “there will be more anticipation for it.”
